GRANT COUNTY, Ind. — A woman was arrested and charged for helping a Grant County inmate escape in January, according to the Grant County Sheriff's Office.

On Jan. 8, 2024, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office has apprehended  an inmate they say walked away from a work detail.

Police said 30-year-old Charles J. Gerstorff fled from the detail at the Marion Animal Care and Control building around 7:30 a.m. that day.

Police believe Gerstorff fled into a nearby wooded area after a supervising deputy became distracted. A warrant for escape was issued for Gerstorff, who was in jail on drug charges. He also violated a home detention order by removing an electronic monitoring device.

Later that night, the Grant County Sheriff's Office announced that Gerstorff was apprehended at a Motel 6 on Shadeland Avenue, near East 34th Street on the east side of Indianapolis.

Then, on Feb. 6, 33-year-old Lisa Maine-Miller, of Kokomo, turned herself in to authorities. She was arrested on a warrant and bonded out the same day for $1,205.

She faces a felony charge of assisting a criminal and has a hearing scheduled for Feb. 12 at 9 a.m.
