KOKOMO, Ind. — A Georgia man will spend more than a decade in prison in a murder-for-hire plot targeting a police informant in Kokomo.
Jamil Williamson was sentenced to 12 years behind bars as part of a plea deal. According to our newsgathering partners at the Kokomo Tribune, Williamson pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder. A second charge of attempted murder was dismissed as part of the plea deal.
The case was delayed due to the COVID pandemic and Williamson's case in Georgia on a homicide.
Police had gotten wind of the murder-for-hire plot after tapping a drug kingpin's phone. Williamson and a second person were sent to Kokomo to kill a person the drug kingpin held responsible for a robbery of his son.
When the hitmen arrived in Kokomo, police were waiting for them at the home of their target.
Police pulled over the suspect's car and arrested Williamson and the other hitman. In their hotel room, police found two semi-automatic handguns. Police also found money they believed was part of the $10,000 the hitmen were being paid.
Williamson's 12-year sentence will run concurrent to his 15-year sentence for voluntary manslaughter in Georgia.
The other hitman was sentenced to 35 years in prison after a trial in 2018.
