But this weekend, a woman was shot and injured before her husband killed himself. Another man was found dead on Olive Street Monday morning. Also Monday, workers at a Conoco gas station on Shelby Street were zip-tied and robbed at gunpoint.

One resident who has lived in Fountain Square for over a decade said the violence gets her attention, but she still feels very safe livng there.

“I am concerned about it, because it does damage the reputation of the area. Personally, I don't feel under attack, I don't take any extra precautions. Maybe I should but I don't,” said Karen Holder.

In the past several years, police say numbers show violent crime (murders, rapes, robberies and assaults) has been going down in the area. With 52 reported in 2017, 34 in 2018 and only 12 through the first five months of 2019. However, they were not able to provide updated numbers in the area since the summer of last year.
