SALEM, Ind. — Indiana State Police spent more than a year investigating former Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel, seizing cars, guns, jewelry and a laundry list of other valuables, and some of those items will soon be up for bid.
A hearing was held Tuesday in Washington County to clear up what items can and cannot be sold at this time to pay Noel's $3.1 million in restitution.
Court-ordered auctioneer Terry Morgan said some items could increase in value because of their connection to Jamey, who was sentenced to 15 years in prison in October.
"I think with these being Jamey Noel's cars, there's gonna be some people in this area interested that will buy them cars," Morgan said.
All items belonging to Jamey seized during the criminal investigation will be for sale. That includes:
- 83 guns and one silencer.
- 28 vehicles.
- Contents of 26 shipping containers.
- Dozens of Tom James suits.
- Four Rolex watches.
- Miscellaneous Milwaukee tools.
- Carts and cartwheels.
- 1940s Plymouth 18 ton locomotive and 100 feet of railroad track.
The 84 guns are mostly handguns, but the collection also includes rifles and shotguns.
The vehicle fleet mainly consists of cars from the 1950s, 60s and 70s, including a 1959 Corvette, 1970 Corvette Stingray, 1966 Dodge Charger and 2020 Mercedes-Benz S450.
Morgan said the "classic cars" in this fleet will sell for 40% more if they fully rehab them and sell them at the right auction. He said some of the cars don't run. He's targeting April 1 for an auction to give them time to refurbish the cars, and because they'll sell better in the spring.
"It's gonna take a little while to get these cars done. I can't get these cars done over night," Morgan said.
Morgan said his fee for the auction, repairs and advertising the cars will be 20%. That won't be official until there is contract between Morgan, the courts and the defendants.
Items that were bought by, or being used by, Misty or Kasey Noel are not being sold at this time, because their criminal cases are still pending. Those items include:
- $52,698 cash found in Misty's dresser.
- 18-inch 1.35 CT diamond necklace.
- Platinum ladies wedding band.
- Seven vehicles.
Jamey is incarcerated at New Castle Correctional Facility about 50 miles northeast of Indianapolis after he admitted guilt in October to 27 felonies and was sentenced to 15 years in prison. He and his wife Misty -- who filed for divorce earlier this year and also faces felony charges -- owe more than $3 million in restitution for Jamey's crimes.
Three properties owned or previously owned by the family went up for sale in recent days, according to Zillow listings:
Jamey was ordered to pay $2.8 million in restitution to the Utica Township Volunteer Firefighters Association, $61,190.77 to the Clark County Sheriff's Department and $35,245.60 to Indiana State Police. He was also fined $270,000 by Judge Larry Medlock.
Jamey and Misty were ordered to pay $173,155.07 to the Indiana Department of Revenue.
Jamey took a plea deal, which included a guilty plea to:
- One count of corrupt business influence.
- 15 counts of theft.
- One count of obstruction of justice.
- Four counts of official misconduct.
- Five counts of tax evasion.
- One count of money laundering.
Noel, the former Clark County sheriff, also ran the UTVFA for many years. He, Misty and Kasey racked up millions of dollars in personal charges to UTVFA credit cards without providing reimbursement, according to court documents.
Misty faces 10 felonies: five counts of theft and five counts of tax evasion. Kasey faces nine felonies: five counts of theft and four counts of tax evasion.
Their trials are scheduled to begin Feb. 3, with Misty's beginning first.
