Former homicide investigator: Delphi case is solvable

Former investigators are closely watching their colleagues working on the Delphi murder case as new developments generate brand new tips.

DELPHI, Ind. (WTHR) — Former investigators are closely watching their colleagues working on the Delphi murder case as new developments generate brand new tips.

Police released new information in the investigation into the 2017 murders of Abby Williams and Libby German, including a new suspect sketch that is getting the public's attention. Two former investigators told Eyewitness News state police are on the right track.

Indiana State Police Supt. Doug Carter shared new information in the two-year-old investigation during a press conference Monday.

Kathy Guider is a former FBI agent who has handled hundreds of cases. She is a founding partner at her Indianapolis-based investigation company called Veracity, where she serves as vice president of operations. Although neither she nor her company are part of the Delphi investigation, Eyewitness News asked Guider to weigh in.

"We do a lot of investigations, background investigations," she said. "My gut feeling is something has come to light, something has come out or come up through investigations and they are aggressively pursuing this new information."

Guider made several handwritten notes during the state police news conference about the Delphi murder case. Someone discovered the girls' bodies Feb. 14, 2107 in the afternoon near the Delphi Historic Trail about a half-mile upstream from the high bridge.

The new information released by police includes video of the suspected killer walking on the high bridge. State police want the public to get a good look at the video and sketch to see if they can help. Police are also looking for tips again, like in the beginning of their investigation back in 2017 where they got hundreds of potential leads.

"Once again the public can go back and start thinking, 'I know that face,'" said Guider.

State police also released more audio of the suspect's voice. They hope it sounds familiar.

Eyewitness News talked by phone to retired IMPD Homicide Det. Robert Snow. Snow is now an author and has written several books based on much of his successful career and experience as an investigator.

"I think they are really trying to get information to the public so someone will say, 'Hey, I think i know this person,' and they need to do that if they are going to solve this case," Snow said.

Despite the 2-year timetable since the murders of Libby and Abby, Snow believes the Delphi case is solvable. Now, as state police start to go through new tips, the former investigators stress no new tip is too small.

"If it was my case, I would prioritize the new tips and organize with my other investigators how I check each and every tip," Guider said. "I can guarantee you that the investigators on this case are thinking about how to solve this case every single minute of the day."
