The Grant County Prosecutor's Office charged Kyle James Vincent with cruelty to an animal.

FAIRMOUNT, Indiana — A former Fairmount Police Department officer is charged in the death of his K-9.

The Grant County Prosecutor's Office charged Kyle James Vincent with cruelty to an animal.

According to court documents, Vincent called his chief on Sept. 10 to report his K-9, Zeus, was dead.

Vincent allegedly gave conflicting stories before admitting he left Zeus in his patrol car kennel when his shift ended at 6 a.m. and didn't discover Zeus until around 6 p.m. that night.

Court documents allege Vincent said he had been in a fog that day and Zeus had not made his usual noises when they pulled into the driveway.

Vincent had been employed at the Fairmount Police Department from December 2022 and became a handler in July 2023. He submitted his resignation on Sept. 12, 2023, according to court documents.
