INDIANAPOLIS — A Florida man was found guilty Wednesday of murdering a man on Interstate 65 two years ago.

A White County jury found Miguel Ibarguren, 44, of Miami, Florida, guilty of murdering Aristide Garcia, 63, of Los Angeles, California.

"This conviction is the result of an extensive multi-state investigation conducted by Indiana State Police Detectives, whose persistence and dedication were crucial in solving this case," ISP said in a news release. "The detectives worked tirelessly with local, state, and federal agencies to gather evidence and build a case that spanned several jurisdictions."

On March 8, 2022, just after noon, crews cleaning I-65 near State Road 18 found an unresponsive man in a ditch and called 911. Brookston-Chalmers First Responders and Monticello Fire Department responded and pronounced the man dead on the scene. Two days later, the man was identified as Garcia.

Detectives learned Garcia was working for a trucking company out of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and was reported missing after his semi-truck was found. Detectives next learned that Garcia's co-driver had been Ibarguren.

On March 13, 2022, a White County Judge issued a warrant for Ibarguren’s arrest. Detectives were able to find Ibarguren in Arlington, Texas on March 15, 2022.

"The White County Prosecutor’s Office played a vital role in presenting a strong case that led to Ibarguren’s conviction," ISP said. "Their thorough examination of the facts, effective coordination with law enforcement, and commitment to justice were instrumental in securing the guilty verdict."

Sentencing is scheduled for next month. ISP said further details will be provided at that time.
