BOCA RATON, Fla. (WTHR) – A delivery worker for Best Buy is accused of beating an older woman with a mallet, dousing her with a toxic chemical and setting her on fire inside her home in Boca Raton, Florida.

Police responded to a call around 9:15 a.m. Monday and when they arrived at the home, they found a 75-year-old woman unconscious and suffering from burns and trauma.

A delivery worker who is contracted to deliver appliances for Best Buy told investigators at the scene that he and 21-year-old Jorge Dupre Lachazo were delivering a washer and dryer to the victim’s home that morning.

After the appliances were installed, he told police that he went outside to return some phone calls while Lachazo stayed inside to talk to the victim about the appliances and answer any questions.

That’s when the witness said he heard screams coming from the house and when he went inside, he saw blood and the victims laying on the floor.

The witness called 911 and Lachazo got into the delivery truck and drove away. A responding officer saw the truck leaving the neighborhood and stopped it.

Police said that during an interview with Lachazo, he admitted to striking the victim and dousing her with a liquid chemical. Lachazo also admitted to using cocaine and marijuana earlier that day.

Lachazo has been charged with Attempted Second-Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon on a Person over 65 Years of Age and Arson.

The victim is in “extremely critical” condition.
