Fishers police use heat-seeking drone to arrest man accused of strangling woman, stealing gun

Edgar Gomez-Guadarrama, 28, of Fishers, was arrested and charged with resisting law enforcement and OWI. Elwood police say he strangled a woman prior to the chase.

FISHERS, Ind. — A 28-year-old Fishers man was arrested and charged after he allegedly strangled a woman, stole a gun and led Fishers police officers on a high-speed chase.

Edgar Gomez-Guadarrama was arrested and charged with resisting law enforcement and operating while intoxicated following the incident.

According to a release from the Fishers Police Department, around 10:20 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, Fishers police received a report that deputies in Madison County were searching for a suspect, later identified as Gomez-Guadarrama, in an incident in Elwood and that the suspect had stolen a gun.

Madison County officers provided a vehicle and suspect description, and an FPD officer driving along State Road 37 noticed the vehicle and began to follow it. The FPD officer ran the license plate number and confirmed it matched the numbers provided by Madison County deputies.

After claiming Gomez-Guadarrama blew through a red light at the intersection of 131st Street and Parkside Drive, officers tried to stop him. However, police said Gomez-Guadarrama did not stop and instead sped away, crossing into oncoming traffic and reaching speeds of more than 100 mph.

Eventually, Gomez-Guadarrama crashed his car at 126th and Parkside Drive and took off running. FPD officers then used a heat-seeking drone over the field where officers saw him run.

FPD released drone footage showing a figure, believed to be Gomez-Guadarrama, running into a field before he is shown exiting the field with his hands up, going to the ground and being arrested.

Police said Gomez-Guadarrama showed signs of intoxication.

Elwood police said Gomez-Guadarrama was wanted after he allegedly broke into a home and strangled a woman in front of a child. The victim and child were reportedly able to escape and call the police. Elwood police said they are seeking a warrant to charge Gomez-Guadarrama in their jurisdiction.

Gomez-Guadarrama's initial hearing is scheduled for May 28 at 1:15 p.m.
