Fight in Walmart parking lot leads to Muncie man's death

Munice police say a fight in the Walmart parking lot led to the shooting death of a 24-year-old man.

MUNCIE, Ind. (WTHR) — Munice police say a fight in the Walmart parking lot led to the shooting death of a 24-year-old man.

Police responded to a report of a shooting shortly after 11 p.m. Thursday.

Officers arrived and found Chase Woolums suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Medics transported Woolums to the hospital where he later died.

Shorlty before 1 a.m. officers spotted a vehicle matching the description of a possible suspect in the shooting.

Police say the driver fled from officers but later stopped. Police arrested 31-year-old Justin Bennett for murder, resisting law enforcement and serious violent felon in possession of a gun.

Police say Bennett also had additional arrest warrants.

A passenger in Bennett's vehicle was arrested for obstruction.

Police say the incident began when Woolums and Bennett agreed to meet in the Walmart parking lot to fight.
