ANDERSON, Ind. (WTHR) — Charges of murder and feticide have been filed in the case of a pregnant Anderson woman who was shot.
Skye'Lar White had a not guilty plea entered on his behalf during an initial hearing Thursday afternoon. He told the judge he will be getting his own attorney.
Anderson police say the second twin boy 29-year-old Alexis Wasson died. Wasson is brain dead and on life support at an Indianapolis hospital.
Police believe Skye'Lar White shot his girlfriend in the back of the head inside a home on Mellen Drive before 3 a.m. Friday.
White claimed the gun was in the bed, went off by accident and only grazed Wasson’s head. Anderson police say White never called 911 for help.
Instead of driving his girlfriend directly to the hospital, the police report says White drove Wasson and her 5-year-old daughter to a home on East 27th Street, where he pounded on the door in the middle of the night and woke up his mother and another unnamed witness.
White asked his mother to drive Wasson to the hospital, which she did, while White took off on foot.
Wasson’s injuries are not survivable. One of the twin boys she carried died Tuesday at 21 weeks in her pregnancy. The second child died Wednesday.
Wasson also has a five-year-old daughter. White is not the father. Police are not sure if White is the father of the unborn twins.
Police found a spent 9mm shell casing behind the headboard of Wasson’s bed, but they have not recovered a gun.
