INDIANAPOLIS — The person who ran over and killed 32-year-old Tommy Brock Jr. on Pleasant Run Parkway, near State Avenue, Thursday was behind the wheel of a 2005 Chevy Equinox.
"Every time I close my eyes, I can only see him underneath that car," said Brock's sister, Jaliyah Boyd.
Glenday Bean, Brock's mother, said she and Boyd were called to the scene to identify the body. Bean said when she arrived, all she could see were feet sticking out from underneath a car.
"I knew it was my son because they showed me photos of his tattoos, and his tattoos are very extensive," Bean said.
The car that hit Brock was traced back to 63-year-old Debra Hines. Hines told 13News she can't drive and uses an oxygen tank. She said she sold the SUV a month-and-a-half ago to a woman on Facebook Marketplace.
"I signed the title over to her, gave her the title," Hines said. "I told her she could use my plate until tomorrow, and she said she'd go to the license plate branch the next day and get everything taken care of, and she [obviously] didn't do it."
Hines learned about Brock's death being investigated as a homicide during the interview with 13News.
"Oh my God. Oh man, you're going to make me cry. That is so sad. I swear. I wish I would have never sold the car. I wish I would have never sold it now. That breaks my heart," an emotional Hines said between breaths.
But Brock's family said they're not going to let how he died define his life. They said he was an amazing father and son and a great big brother who loved to joke around.
"I don't have anybody to be my goofball anymore. I don't have anybody to make jokes and say, 'Yo head so big.' I don't have that anymore because he's not here," Boyd said regretfully.
Brock's music is serving as a memento for his family.
"Oh, his music was great," Bean said. "It was different, it was inspiring. Yeah, it was inspiring."
The suspect responsible for killing Brock is still at large, police said. His family, along with IMPD, is asking anyone with information to come forward.
