Man killed in Broad Ripple bar shooting remembered as amazing son and brother, loving father

Tim Brown's loved ones say he lives on through the lives he touched.

INDIANAPOLIS — Tim Brown had dance moves that would bring a smile to your face.

But right now, tears fall down the faces of those who loved him.

The 36-year-old man died early Saturday morning after being shot inside a Broad Ripple bar. Five other people were wounded in the shooting, which happened around 1:30 a.m. March 16 at Landsharks at 808 Broad Ripple Ave.

"As unfortunate that it is, God makes no mistakes, and I know that our son is saved. We know where he's at. We will see him again," said Tim's mother, Emma Brown.

Emma, along with Tim's three sisters, Timia, Mariah and Monique, said Tim was a lot of things to a lot of people. He was a wrestling coach and mentor to his kids, an amazing son and brother, but most importantly, a loving father to his 5-year-old daughter, Karsyn.

"This is who our focus is going to be on now, so that she will be able to remember her father. She loved her father, and he loved her. And that seems as if it's been now stripped away," Emma said.

And while Tim may no longer be physically here, his family says he lives on through the lives he's touched.

"Tim didn't have a mean bone in his body. To know him was to literally love him. I'm pretty sure everybody that came across him, all he did was make them laugh and smile," said Tim's oldest sister, Timia Brown.

Those same people are now rallying around the Brown family.

"They know this is a trying time for us, and they haven't been nothing but supportive, and it's not overwhelming because it's coming from a place of love, said Tim's younger sister, Monique. "They knew how we loved in our household, and they're just giving us a little bit of that back."

Brown's baby sister, Mariah, is asking for people to put the guns down.

"As a 26-year-old, I just wish my generation would just know how to go somewhere to have a good time instead of ruining other people's lives because you don't know who they're leaving behind," Mariah said.

According to court documents, detectives learned two women started arguing in the bar prior to shots being fired.

Court documents say detectives reviewed surveillance footage from inside the bar and city cameras, which allegedly showed the suspect firing shots and run from the scene with a woman. Surveillance video then showed the suspect drive away in the same car he arrived in.

IMPD said they had taken a 25-year-old man into custody around 10 a.m. Saturday in the 1300 block of Murphys Landing Drive, near Bluff and West Southport roads on the city's south side. He was later arrested by homicide detectives for murder.

(NOTE: 13News has a policy not to name suspects until formal charges are filed by a prosecutor.)

Court documents say detectives obtained search warrants for the suspect vehicle, apartment complex and bags the suspect and woman were carrying. Detectives said they found the clothes the suspect was wearing, as well as a gun underneath the driver's seat of the car that had the same caliber as the shell casings found at the bar.

Police ask anyone with additional information about the shooting to contact IMPD Det. Steven Gray at 317-327-3475 or by email at Steven.Gray@indy.gov. Tips can also be made anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-TIPS.
