Family desperately seeks to find stolen truck, relative's ashes inside

It was taken Wednesday afternoon from a W. Washington Street business, where owner Jonathan Cook had it parked.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - A family desperately hopes police can find their stolen red pickup truck, not so much for the vehicle but for the priceless item inside.

The truck is a 2007 Ford F-350 pickup with a silver diamond-plate toolbox in the back behind the cab. It's got brand new tires, as well.

It was taken Wednesday afternoon from a W. Washington Street business, where owner Jonathan Cook had it parked.

The truck is still missing, as are thousands of dollars worth of tools. But it's nothing compared to the item of sentimental value to the family that can’t be replaced by the insurance company.

“A necklace with her ashes in it. Very valuable. Irreplaceable,” said family friend Nickalous Courtney.

A cylinder hanging from a chain contains the ashes of the Jonathan Cook's mother.

Cook “always drove that truck (and) kept it with him. His mom died three months ago, so it’s not even hit him. He has not gotten over that emotional state yet. We’re still working over that process," Courtney said.

His mother's death was unexpected. High winds one day last October brought down a tree limb that struck and killed the woman.

Members of the family shared her ashes. One niece had them placed in a necklace with a dolphin-shaped pendant.

Of the thief, Courtney had this to say: “I just hope he can man up, bring the truck back. Who cares if it’s the middle of the night. Especially that necklace. That’s what we’re really hoping for.“
