Homicide investigation underway after man found fatally shot on Indy's near north side

John Randolph Bonilla Jr. was found dead Dec. 14 in the 2200 block of North Illinois Street.

INDIANAPOLIS — Authorities have ruled the death of a man found shot on the near north side of Indianapolis a homicide. 

On Thursday, Dec. 14, just before 11 a.m., IMPD North District officers responded to the 2200 block of North Illinois Street on a report of a person shot. 

Officers arrived and located a man inside the home with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services arrived, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

IMPD homicide detectives responded to the scene to begin the investigation. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to identify and collect potential forensic evidence, according to IMPD.

On Friday, the Marion County Coroner’s Office ruled the investigation to be a homicide. The man was identified as 44-year-old John Randolph Bonilla Jr.
