Cyclist killed in Marion hit-and-run crash

Police are seeking leads into the identity of the driver who hit and killed a cyclist Monday morning in the 500 block of South Butler Avenue.

MARION, Ind. — Police in Marion, Indiana, are investigating the identity of the driver who hit and killed a cyclist in Marion early Monday morning.

Norman Forbes, 76, of Marion, was crossing the bridge heading south in the 500 block of South Butler Avenue, near West 4th Street and South Baldwin Avenue, shortly after 7:30 a.m. Jan. 8. Police said a vehicle, also traveling southbound, crossed the bridge, striking Forbes from behind and sending him off of his bicycle and onto the ground. 

Police said the suspect vehicle fled the scene, and Forbes was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Forbes' cause of death is now pending as the Grant County Coroner's Office continues to investigate, although there is no information on the suspect vehicle or driver.
