INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis teenager will serve at least three years in prison for his role in a 2023 shooting at Castleton Square Mall.
Curtis Wilson was sentenced Thursday, March 28 to four years in prison, with one year being suspended after being convicted of two counts of criminal recklessness in February.
According to court documents, on the day of the shooting, Wilson and a group of friends arrived at the mall and encountered a rival group. During the encounter, Wilson grabbed a firearm that was holstered on his brother's hip. He then chased the other group out of the mall, exchanging gunfire in the process.
Wilson was shot in the leg during the incident. He was the only person injured in the shooting.
“We will not tolerate young people acting recklessly and endangering others in public — especially when there are firearms involved,” said Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears. “We are lucky that no one else was injured during this incident. I am thankful for the quick action of law enforcement and the businesses and witnesses that aided in this successful prosecution.”
