Plainfield man charged with attempted murder for allegedly shooting pregnant woman in road rage incident

The woman and her newborn baby survived the shooting in March.

INDIANAPOLIS — A Plainfield man who shot a pregnant Avon woman in a road rage incident in March now faces multiple charges in connection with the incident. 

Police took 37-year-old Curtis Cutler, of Plainfield, into custody Oct. 20, and he is believed to be the person responsible for the shooting. He is being held in the Hendricks County Jail on charges including attempted murder, aggravated battery, unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent offender and criminal recklessness, all felonies.

The incident happened March 1, 2023, near Township Line and Dan Jones roads as a dispute between two vehicles in the early morning hours.

During the incident, a 20-year-old woman was in the front passenger seat of the victim's vehicle. She became the target of a gunshot that was fired from the driver's side of a small delivery van.

The shooting inflicted a life-threatening wound to the woman, forcing her to undergo an emergency C-section, according to police. Police said this shooting incident not only jeopardized her life, but also the life of her unborn child.

The woman and her newborn baby survived after being hospitalized for several days. 

Cutler's pretrial conference is scheduled for Dec. 7 at 10 a.m.
