CROTHERSVILLE, Ind. — An 18-year-old Crothersville student is facing felony charges for allegedly making threats toward his high school.

Officials at Crothersville Jr./Sr. High School notified police around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday that the student had made comments to other students that threatened harm to them and the school. A Crothersville police officer responded to the school and detained the suspect.

The police department requested help from several agencies to evacuate the Crothersville School Building. Officers from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, Brownstown Police Department, Indiana State Police and Indiana State Excise Police helped school employees evacuate the building, getting students to a safe location.

Administrators canceled classes for the rest of the day, with the extra law enforcement staying until the students were safely released to go home.

Officers, including a K-9 from the New Albany Police Department and the Columbus Police Bomb Squad, helped clear the building to make sure it is safe for students to return.

The 18-year-old suspect was taken to the Jackson County Jail on a preliminary charge of intimidation.
