MUNCIE, Ind. — A man was arrested after two people were shot at a party in Muncie over the weekend, according to court documents.
The shooting was reported around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2 in the 900 block of West Carson Street, near West Riverside and Wheeling avenues. According to court documents, responding officers arrived as people were running away from a house where a party had been taking place, and witnesses told police they heard gunshots from inside the home.
The officers found two people who had been shot outside the house, one with a gunshot wound to the upper back and another with a gunshot wound to the arm, according to the documents. Both were transported to a local hospital.
One witness allegedly told police they saw a man they knew fire a gun two or three times after an argument between two groups. The victim shot in the arm was hit while trying to exit the house, the witness said.
Another witness said they heard someone say, "Oh my God (suspect's name), why would you do that?"
Later on Nov. 2, detectives found the suspect's mother's address from prior calls where he had been located at. The suspect was taken into custody at the home.
According to court documents, the suspect admitted to being at the party with a gun that night. He allegedly told police that during an argument between his friends and another person, he heard gunshots and began shooting out of fear without knowing who he was shooting.
The suspect faces preliminary charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery and criminal recklessness pointing a firearm, according to court documents.
