Correctional officer arrested for trafficking with inmates

A correctional officer is facing charges for allegedly trafficking with an inmate at the Pendleton Correctional Facility.

PENDLETON, Ind. (WTHR) - A correctional officer is facing charges for allegedly trafficking with an inmate at the Pendleton Correctional Facility.

Ernest Bertram is accused of trafficking contraband with offenders housed at the facility. After an interview with investigators about the allegations, Bertram was booked at the Madison County Jail on charges of official misconduct, trafficking with an inmate, dealing in a Schedule I, II, or III controlled substance and a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance.

“Trafficking in any type of contraband with an offender is inexcusable and puts my staff in jeopardy," Warden Dushan Zatecky said in a release.

No further details of the investigation were made available at this time.
