INDIANAPOLIS — A 53-year-old Indianapolis man is facing murder charges after a victim's death in a January battery case was ruled a homicide.

According to IMPD, on Tuesday, Jan. 23, officers responded to a local hospital on a report of a person battered. Officers arrived on the scene and found an adult male suffering from traumatic injuries.

Following an initial investigation, police were led to a residence in the 4900 block of Media Drive, near Cold Spring Road and Michigan Road.

Officers took the suspect into custody without incident following a SWAT response. The alleged suspect was identified as a 53-year-old man.

A little over two months later, on March 31, the victim died from their injuries.

The Marion County Coroner ruled the victim's death a homicide. The victim's name will be released once family is notified.

Police arrested the 53-year-old suspect for domestic battery resulting in serious bodily injury, but since the coroner ruled the victim's death a homicide, the suspect could face murder charges. However, no charges have been filed as of this story's publishing.

(NOTE: 13News has a policy not to name suspects until formal charges are filed by a prosecutor.)

Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact IMPD Detective Katie Gourley at 317-327-3475 or email Katie.Gourley@indy.gov.
