Coroner determines cause of deaths for 3 in Muncie home

A 32-year-old man, 45-year-old woman and 76-year-old man were found dead in a home in the 500 block of South Rambler Road on Nov. 3.

MUNCIE, Ind. — The Delaware County coroner determined the cause of deaths for three people who were found dead in a Muncie home in November.

Coroner Gavin Greene said 45-year-old Sarah Barnes and her father, 76-year-old Douglas Starr, died from multiple gunshot wounds and ruled their deaths as homicides.

Greene said 32-year-old Kevin Humphrey died from a gunshot wound to the head and ruled his death as a suicide.

The coroner's office later told 13News the incident appears to be a murder-suicide.

According to Greene, Barnes and Humphrey also tested positive from amphetamine and methamphetamine.

Around 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 3, Muncie police officers went to check on a person whom no one had been able to contact for some time at a home in the 500 block of South Rambler Road, near West River Road and 300 West.

The caller said they found an unresponsive woman down in the attached garage. Officers arrived at the home and found the woman to be dead.

Officials said they then found two adult men in the house who were also dead.

The coroner later identified the victims as Barnes, Starr and Humphrey.
