Connersville police warn public of phone scam

CONNERSVILLE, Indiana — Police in Connersville are warning the public of a phone scam involving officer impersonation.

In a social media post, the Connersville Police Department said it had received a report of someone calling citizens and representing themselves as a member of the department while soliciting donations they claim are for fallen officers.

"Neither the Connersville Police Department, Fayette County Sheriff's Office, nor the Connersville FOP Memorial Lodge are attempting to collect any money at this time," the department said in the post. "We will always notify you, our citizens, of any collection effort we undertake through this (Facebook) page or verified sources."

Connersville police encouraged anyone uneasy about someone collecting money to call them at 765-825-2111.
