COLUMBUS, Ind. (WTHR) — Police arrested a man and woman from Hamilton County Thursday night in Columbus on drug and counterfeiting charges.
According to Columbus Police Lt. Matt Harris, John Sebastian, 34, of Westfield and Tawnee Lathrop, 29, of Noblesville, were found with counterfiet money and methamphetamine in an SUV with a stolen license plate. Officers stopped their SUV after they left the Target store on National Road in Columbus around 7 p.m. Police had originally been called to the store to investigate a report of two people behaving suspiciously inside.
During the stop, police say they found the license plate was stolen in Noblesville earlier this year, and that Sebastian first lied to officers about his identity before he was identified.
Police found counterfeit bills in the glove compartment and in Lathrop's purse. They also found a scanner/printer, several printer cartridges, and a paper cutter inside the vehicle.
Lathrop also had meth in her purse.
She is jailed in Bartholomew County on three preliminary felony charges:
- Theft (Level 6 Felony)
- Forgery/Counterfeiting (Level 6 Felony)
- Possession of Methamphetamine (Level 6 Felony)
Sebastian, who has an active arrest warrant in Marion County, is facing three felony charges, as well:
- Theft (Level 6 Felony)
- False Informing (Level 6 Felony)
- Forgery/Counterfeiting (Level 6 Felony)
They had not been formally charged as of Friday morning.
