MUNCIE, Ind. — A Muncie 17-year-old is facing adult charges for allegedly burning her baby with lighters while her friends recorded it.
Nadeza Shreves is facing counts of neglect of a dependent, aggravated battery and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon.
Police in Muncie say they were called to a home on High Street in May for a "concerning" case of child abuse.
When the officer arrived, the police report says he was met by two females in the parking lot across the street.
That's where the officer said one female showed him a video of Shreves repeatedly holding a lit lighter to her daughter's hand. The nearly 2-year-old can be heard saying, "Momma it burns" and then Shreves can allegedly be seen burning her daughter four more times. The video also showed another girl spraying perfume on the girl's hand to accelerate the flame. The prosecutor's office tells 13News it plans to file charges against the person who sprayed the perfume on the child's hand.
The police report also states the 17-year-old would lock the little girl in her room by herself while she would leave the house to have sex.
In another disturbing accusation, the teen is alleged to have placed a pillow over her daughter's face while she had sex in the same bed.
The report also states the teen said she was lighting her daughter's hand on fire as a joke. She allegedly told an officer she was just holding the child while other people burned her daughter.
According to the police report, the little girl was sent to live with a distant relative.
Shreves has an initial hearing set for July 22.
