Businesses hurt by rash of north Indianapolis break-ins

A few months ago, four other businesses in the same strip mall were targeted at Keystone Avenue and 54th Street.

INDIANAPOLIS — Many business owners on Keystone Avenue are growing concerned and frustrated after a string of burglaries left damage to their business and their cash registers empty.

"It was just crazy. The whole glass just shattered. Everything just shattered," said Tia Wilson, owner of Chicken Scratch.

Wilson says she got a phone call from IMPD just before 5 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 26.

She shared photos with 13News of the damage.

Thieves stole the cash register, safe, bank deposits and more.

"We're having to cut hours because we lost money because, you know, we don't have money to pay staff and things like that, so it really hits us hard," Wilson said.

The Smoke Shop next door also got hit.

Thieves stole cash from the register.

Just last week, someone stole a vehicle from Carmel Motors.

Business owners are concerned this is becoming a trend.

Chicken Scratch continues to serve the community. The owner hopes they can get back to where they started.

"What low-down person would do this? Why would they do this to us? Being a small business in the city just trying to expand, and me opening up the downtown location, we're literally just starting to get to a good place in a good position, and then, this happens. It kind of knocks you back down a couple pegs," Wilson said.

Some business owners said they will invest in more security cameras.

IMPD continues to investigate.
