WASHINGTON — A Brownsburg, Indiana, man pled guilty to charges for assaulting officers during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
Troy Allen Koen, 54, pleaded guilty to one count of assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers. He had been charged with other counts including destruction of government property, and obstruction of law enforcement during civil disorder.
Koen was arrested in Indianapolis in 2023.
According to court documents, on Jan. 6, 2021, Koen repeatedly assaulted law enforcement officers guarding the U.S. Capitol, destroyed property, and participated in the assault against law enforcement officers inside the Lower West Terrace Tunnel.
NOTE: The above video is from a previous report on Koen being arrested.
The court documents allege Koen marched to the Capitol and made his way to the front of the crowd of rioters on the northwest side of the West Plaza. As Koen approached the police line, he allegedly grabbed a bike rack barricade and yanked it away from officers. He then allegedly took part in a violent struggle with the officers. Koen is then accused of doing the same thing with a second barricade.
After the police line was overran, Koen is accused of making his way to the Lower West Terrace Tunnel, which is where officers had retreated to. Koen is said to have approached the tunnel holding a large, white pole with two flags attached. One flag said “TRUMP 2020” and the other was a Confederate flag. As the officers barricaded themselves behind a set of glass doors in the tunnel, Koen is allegedly seen smashing the flagpole through the glass door. Rioters were then able to get inside, Koen included.
According to court documents, Koen then separated the flagpole into two pieces and used them to assault the officers and jab them into the police line.
