INDIANAPOLIS — The Marion County Prosecutor's Office has filed formal charges against the suspect in a deadly shooting over the weekend inside a Broad Ripple bar.
Nicholas Fulk, 25, of Indianapolis, has been charged with the following:
- One count of murder
- Three counts of aggravated battery
- Two counts of battery with a deadly weapon Weapon
- One count of possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon
Fulk had his initial court hearing Wednesday morning.
Travis Rodgers, co-owner of Landsharks at 808 Broad Ripple Ave., shared multiple clips from surveillance video with 13News.
In the video, you see the alleged shooter and a woman walk in together. The man then appears to grab a gun from inside the woman's shirt and puts it in his pocket.
Minutes later, you can see the gun go off and people duck for cover before running out the front door.
The owners of Landsharks spoke with 13News off-camera. They said the woman who allegedly had the gun in her shirt should also be held accountable. Landsharks' owners said the surveillance video contradicts what she told police.
According to court documents, she told detectives Fulk brought the gun into the club in his coat pocket.
As for how the gun got into the club, the owners of Landsharks said their security guards routinely wand people and pat them down as they come inside. But in this case, the owners said the gun was in the woman's bra, which made it difficult to search.
A spokesperson on behalf of the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission shared the following statement with 13News:
"ATC received notice yesterday of the permittee's closure and request to place the permit into a non-operational status (escrow). The Commission also voted this morning to revoke the permit extension previously granted to the permittee on March 5."
Rodgers said the owners are not sure if or when they will reopen Landsharks.
The shooting happened shortly before 1:30 a.m. March 16.
Officers working along Broad Ripple Avenue in front of the bar heard shots coming from inside the business, according to IMPD. Five men who had been shot were found on the scene and taken to local hospitals. Another victim drove to an Indianapolis hospital, bringing the total number of people shot to six.
One of the victims, later identified as 36-year-old Tim Brown Jr., died from his injuries, and police believe all the other victims are in stable condition.
According to court documents, detectives learned two women started arguing in the bar prior to shots being fired.
Court documents say detectives reviewed surveillance footage from inside the bar and city cameras, which allegedly showed Fulk firing shots and run from the scene with a woman. Surveillance video then showed Fulk drive away in the same car he arrived in.
IMPD said they took Fulk into custody around 10 a.m. Saturday in the 1300 block of Murphys Landing Drive, near Bluff and West Southport roads on the city's south side. He was later arrested by homicide detectives for murder.
Court documents say detectives obtained search warrants for the suspect vehicle, apartment complex and bags the suspect and woman were carrying. Detectives said they found the clothes Fulk was wearing, as well as a gun underneath the driver's seat of the car that had the same caliber as the shell casings found at the bar.
