'Didn't mean to grope you' | Ex-deputy allegedly slapped, choked woman who called for help in Bloomington

New court documents share the testimony of a woman who was allegedly assaulted by ex-Monroe County Sheriff's Deputy Jeffery Freeman.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — New court documents reveal how a woman who was lost in Bloomington was allegedly assaulted by a now-fired Monroe County sheriff's deputy

The woman told police she was taking an Uber, but it dropped her off at the wrong address. She said she went to a nearby Monroe County sheriff's deputy, who called for a probationary deputy to help the woman — Deputy Jeffery Freeman.

Freeman took the woman to where she had planned to go, but he allegedly pulled around to the back of the building and had her sit in the front seat.

The woman told police Freeman brushed her leg with his hand and said, "Sorry, I didn't mean to grope you."

She said Freeman turned the conversation to sex and then turned off his body camera. She said Freeman started to act "very weird."

Freeman allegedly grabbed the woman's phone and started going through her photos. These included pictures and videos of the woman being intimate with her boyfriend.

Freeman allegedly asked about the woman's body in reference to the photos. Freeman allegedly told the woman to bend down and pull her shirt down, which she refused to do. Freeman then allegedly pulled her shirt down himself.

According to court documents, the woman told police that Freeman started choking her and slapped her face four or five times. She told police she couldn't breathe while he was choking her.

The woman said she got out of the car after that, and Freeman allegedly asked if she would have a discrete relationship with a married person. According to the woman, Freeman was not wearing his wedding ring, but police confirmed he is married. The woman then told him it would be "wrong."

According to court documents, Freeman did everything in a marked car while in uniform and carrying a duty weapon.

Freeman allegedly denied choking the woman and pulling on her clothes. The detective says Freeman admitted to turning off his body camera. Freeman also allegedly claimed the woman was "the aggressor."

The Monroe County prosecutor charged Freeman with sexual battery, strangulation, official misconduct and obstruction of justice.

Police are asking anyone else who may have had run-ins with Freeman to speak with detectives.
