Bloomington police seek man accused of shooting neighbor in the butt

The victim told authorities he was running from the suspect when he was shot in the butt.

STINESVILLE, Ind. — A man, whose neighbor accused him of shooting the neighbor in the butt after an altercation, is now being sought by Bloomington police. 

In the early morning hours of Nov. 3, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office received a call from the IU Health Bloomington Police Department reporting a man arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound.

The victim and a separate witness, who had reportedly driven the victim to the hospital, claimed they were at the victim’s home in Stinesville, gathering some items. 

The suspect, a neighbor who was reportedly known to the victim, came onto the victim’s property. At one point, the victim saw the suspect pull a gun out and place it in his pocket. 

The victim reported the suspect started shoving him, so he got pepper spray from his pocket, and tried to spray the suspect but was unsuccessful. 

The victim then saw the suspect fumbling for the gun, so he took off running. He heard one gunshot, which then struck him in the buttocks area.

Attempts to locate the suspect have been unsuccessful., according to police. 

The suspect has been identified as 64-year-old Bret Sherrow. 

 If you know the whereabouts of Sherrow, police are cautioning the public to not approach him, as he may be armed and dangerous, but please contact the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Central Dispatch at 812-349-2781.
