BEECH GROVE, Ind. — Beech Grove police are investigating a shooting Thursday morning that injured two girls.
Police responded to a report of a person shot in the 3600 block of Pearlbush Avenue, near East Churchman and Emerson avenues, shortly after 6:45 a.m. Feb. 15.
Tom Hurrle, deputy chief of operations with the Beech Grove Police Department, said dozens of shots were fired at the Park View at Beech Grove Apartments — possibly as many as 50 shots.
Hurrle said a 7-year-old girl and a teenage girl, believed to be 15 or 16 years old, were shot. Medics took the girls to Riley Hospital for Children, where their conditions are said to be stable.
Several of the apartments' windows were shattered, and Hurrle said there are bullet holes in walls at some of the apartments.
A spokesperson with Beech Grove City Schools confirmed all schools are functioning normally Thursday morning after police told the district there is no active threat and schools are safe for in-person instruction.
Thursday afternoon, police confirmed they have three male suspects in custody. The suspects led police on a chase, which ended in a crash near Emerson and Southeastern avenues. Police said one of the suspects is a juvenile and the other two are "young adults."
Police have not shared information at this time about a motive.
