Shooting at Beech Grove gas station hospitalizes man; 19-year-old arrested

According to Beech Grove Police, the shooting happened around 1:45 p.m. at a Marathon gas station near the intersection of S. Emerson Avenue and Elmwood Avenue.

INDIANAPOLIS — One man is in the hospital after a shooting in Beech Grove Friday afternoon.

According to the Beech Grove Police Department, around 1:45 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 12, officers were called to the Marathon gas station located at 4317 S. Emerson Avenue on a report of a person shot.

Officers arrived at the scene and reportedly did not initially locate a victim. Police were later informed by witnesses that the reported victim had been transported to an area hospital by a companion. The victim, a 21-year-old man, according to police, is reported to be in stable condition suffering from a gunshot wound.

Friday night, police said they have arrested a 19-year-old man on preliminary charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. The Marion County Prosecutor's Office will review the case to determine if formal charges will be filed. 

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
