Beech Grove police arrested 15-year-old in Labor Day weekend shooting of another teenager

The shooting happened around 2:45 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1 near South 9th Avenue and Bellefontaine Street.

INDIANAPOLIS — Police in Beech Grove arrested a 15-year-old for his alleged role in a shooting that injured another teenager Labor Day weekend.

According to the Beech Grove Police Department, officers responded to the intersection of South 9th Avenue and Bellefontaine Street on a report of a person shot around 2:45 p.m. on Sept. 1. 

When officers arrived, they found a 16-year-old boy with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Eskenazi Hospital in "serious but stable condition." Police said he underwent surgery and is recovering from his injuries.

On Sept. 4, officers executed a search warrant at a home near where the victim was found Sunday. While searching the home, officers found a gun and arrested a 15-year-old boy.

He is facing preliminary charges of dangerous possession of a firearm by a juvenile, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and battery with a deadly weapon.
