Suspect arrested after man fatally shot in Bedford

The shooting was reported around 6 p.m. Monday in the 700 block of I Street, near 7th Street.

BEDFORD, Indiana — A suspect was arrested after a man was found fatally shot inside a Lawrence County home Monday evening, police said.

Around 6 p.m. Sept. 30, Bedford Police Department officers responded to the 700 block of I Street, near 7th Street, for a report of the shooting.

Officers located a man, identified by police as 27-year-old William M. Boggs, of Bedford, in a bathroom with an apparent gunshot wound. Boggs was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses provided police with information on a suspect and car that left the scene. That car was later seen traveling eastbound on U.S. Highway 50 by a detective with Indiana State Police.

That car was stopped with assistance from the Brownstown Police Department, and the driver, a 34-year-old Bedford man, was taken into custody "without incident," police said.

(NOTE: 13News does not name suspects in cases until formal charges are filed by prosecutors.)

"A weapon was located inside the vehicle believed to have been used in the shooting," Bedford PD said in a statement.

The shooting remains under investigation.
