MUNCIE, Ind. — A Ball State University student is facing several charges after reportedly firing a gun in Muncie last weekend.
According to Muncie Police, officers were dispatched to a report of shots fired in the 2700 block of North Granville Avenue, near East Streeter Avenue, around 2:15 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21. As they got close the area, they heard the sound of automatic gunfire.
No one was reportedly injured, but police arrested a 20-year-old Indianapolis man on preliminary charges of shooting a machine gun, possession of a machine gun, criminal recklessness and possession of a controlled substance, all felonies.
A search of the suspect's apartment uncovered a handgun with a "switch," which enables the handgun to become fully automatic.
Ball State University police assisted with the investigation, which will be turned over to the Delaware County Prosecutor's Office to determine if formal charges will be filed.
