Authorities identify 16-year-old girl shot and killed on northeast side

Metro police are investigating a deadly shooting on the city's northeast side overnight.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Metro police are investigating a deadly shooting on the city's northeast side overnight.

A 16-year-old girl, who was later identified as Nya Cope, was shot while riding in a car with her family near the intersection of 38th Street and Arlington Avenue just before 1 a.m. Sunday. She died at the hospital.

Detectives believe a stray bullet struck her.

Police have not shared information on a potential suspect or what led to the shooting.

Around the same time, a second person walked into Methodist Hospital with a gunshot wound, but police have not been able to connect the two incidents.
