'I'll never understand why his life was taken' | Anderson mom waiting for answers months after son's murder in Indianapolis

JaDen Thrasher had just turned 19 years old when he was shot and killed on Indy's east side back on May 20.

ANDERSON, Ind. — Wednesday, Nov. 20 marked a heartbreaking milestone for one Anderson mom. It was six months to the day that someone murdered her son in Indianapolis.

Even after all this time, police say there haven't been any arrests or suspects.

"You have hurt, anger, rage and it's like, 'God why, why why?' All you can do is scream and ask 'God why?'" LaShun Thrasher said.

Thrasher said she wants answers.

"My son didn't deserve to lose his life," Trasher said.

Her son, JaDen Thrasher, was shot and killed May 20, 2024, five days after his 19th birthday.

According to IMPD, the case is still under investigation.

"It's been just like nothing. It's like a brick wall, and it's frustrating as a parent. Your child is gone, and you want answers, and you're not getting answers because there's nothing to give," Thrasher said.

LaShun Thrasher speaks with 13News six months after her son, JaDen, was shot and killed in Indianapolis.

The shooting happened near East 12th Street and North Colorado Avenue on Indy's east side.

JaDen's father, DaJuan, went door to door the day after the shooting searching for clues.

According to IMPD, there have been 114 unsolved homicides in Indianapolis this year alone.

"I know they have a lot of overwhelming cases...assuming so many murders going on there in the city, it's ridiculous," Thrasher said. "So I understand the case load. I'm just praying they get the help they need to help solve some of these cases because I want my son's case solved."

Thrasher says someone knows something.

"My heart is hurting bad because my son is not coming back," Thrasher said. "I go to the graveyard every day and clean off his grave and pray and talk to God because I'll never understand why his life was taken."

She's hoping that someone, anyone, will step up and help bring her son's killer to justice.

"I'm pleading as a mother now," Thrasher said. "If it was their child or your child, your brother or your aunt, nephew, whoever, you would want someone to say something. You would be pleading like I am for someone in the community to report it and for law enforcement not to give up."
