Anderson police investigating apparent homicide after 61-year-old man found dead

The man was found during a welfare check Thursday evening in the 900 block of West 12th Street, near Madison Avenue.

ANDERSON, Ind. — Anderson police are investigating an apparent homicide after a man was found dead during a welfare check Thursday evening.

Around 7 p.m. Oct. 3, Anderson Police Department officers responded to the 900 block of West 12th Street, just east of Madison Avenue, for the welfare check.

Officers found a 61-year-old man dead, and "initial assessment suggested an unnatural cause of death," a department spokesperson said in a statement.

The department's criminal investigations division and Madison County Coroner's Office responded to the scene.

"The Coroner's Office will perform an autopsy to determine the official cause of death, and the deceased's name will be released once proper notifications have been made," the spokesperson said.

The department said additional information on the investigation will be released as it becomes available.
