2 dead in apparent murder-suicide on Indy's north side

Police responded to a report of a person shot in the 4900 block of Caroline Avenue shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday.

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis police are investigating a deadly shooting on the city's north side. 

Police responded to a report of a person shot in the 4900 block of Caroline Avenue shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Medics pronounced the female victim, who was later identified as 56-year-old Audrey Isham, dead at the scene.

IMPD SWAT officers responded to the scene after the shooting. Police advised residents in the area to stay indoors as the scene was secured.

According to 13News reporter Rich Nye, SWAT officers entered the home shortly after 5 p.m., then exited and began to leave the scene. The situation appeared to be transitioning into an investigation at that point, Nye reported.

Metro police later said officers found a male inside the residence who was also deceased. The male has not yet been identified. 

Homicide detectives believe the incident was a murder-suicide, based on their initial investigation.

Indianapolis Public School 91 was briefly on lockdown due to the incident, but has since released students.
