4-year-old dies after shooting on Indy’s near northeast side

The incident happened around 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18 in the 3600 block of North Dearborn Street, near North Keystone Avenue.

INDIANAPOLIS — A 4-year-old boy died from his injuries after accidentally shooting himself on Indy's near northeast side Sunday afternoon.

Around 12:30 p.m. Aug. 18, officers responded to a report of the shooting in the 3600 block of North Dearborn Street, near North Keystone Avenue.

When officers arrived on scene, they found the boy who was immediately taken to a local hospital in critical condition. 

IMPD said detectives are investigating the possibility that this was an "accidental shooting."

On Monday, Aug. 26, the Marion County Coroner's Office confirmed the boy died from his injuries and identified him as Corione Butts Jr.

According to IMPD, two individuals were detained for their alleged roles in the shooting.
