INDIANAPOLIS — A 21-year-old wanted man was arrested on two active warrants and unlawful possession of a handgun.
The Indiana Crimes Task Force (ICGTF) detectives were conducting surveillance on Demarco Williams, of Indianapolis, on Sunday, Nov. 6.
IMPD said Williams had a warrant for possession of a machine gun, and another warrant was recently issued after he removed his ankle monitor.
Investigators said they saw Williams post photos of himself with guns on social media. In the photos, Williams was allegedly holding a black extended magazine.
Since he is a convicted felon, he can't legally own a gun.
While conducting surveillance, detectives saw a Chrysler 300 pull into a driveway near the 2600 block of North Sherman Drive, near East 26th Street, on Indy's near northeast side.
Williams was allegedly seen leaving the passenger seat of the vehicle, so police initiated a traffic stop.
During the stop, IMPD said Williams didn't listen to officers' verbal commands and "made a movement" toward the front of his waistband. This led officers to believe that he might be reaching for a gun.
Officers allegedly saw Williams toss an item into the vehicle before being taken into custody. The driver of the vehicle was also detained.
While officers were trying to determine if there were more people in the car, they opened up the rear driver's side door and a gun fell out — similar to the one posted on Williams' social media.
Williams was arrested for his warrant and unlawful possession of a gun.
So far in 2024, the ICGTF has seized 226 guns and made 199 arrests.
