2 shot on Indy's near north side

The incident happened shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday near East 29th Street and Central Avenue.

INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is investigating after two people were shot on the near north side of Indianapolis Wednesday afternoon.

IMPD officers initially responded to a report of a person shot near East 29th Street and Central Avenue shortly after 5 p.m. June 5. 

Medics transported the first victim to a hospital in critical condition.

Then, officers found a second person a few blocks away, near 29th and Meridian streets, who had also been shot.

Police described the second victim's condition as stable when medics transported that person to a hospital.

According to IMPD, detectives determined the incidents are related and preliminarily believe the two people shot each other.

An IMPD spokesperson said detectives do not believe anyone else was involved in the incident.

Meridian Street was closed from East Fall Creek Parkway North Drive to 28th Street during the investigation.

The near north side shooting happened about an hour before another shooting on the city's south side.

Just after 6 p.m., IMPD officers were called to the 2000 block of Shelby Street, near East Raymond Street, to investigate a report of a person shot. 

Officers arrived and found a person who had been shot.

According to IMPD, the person was "awake and breathing" when medics took the person to a hospital.

Police have not shared information about a possible suspect or motive in this incident.
