SPEEDWAY, Ind. (WTHR) – Metro police are investigating an explosion in Speedway Friday night right near the track.
Police have arrested two people for manufacturing and having destructive devices.
IMPD says the blast happened on West 16th Street by a railroad overpass not far from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
A woman told police she was driving under the overpass when something blew up right in front of her car.
"As we went under the overpass, it was just this huge explosion. There was smoke everywhere," said Jane Olise-Aikins.
Olise-Aikins said she was just coming home from picking her son up from work when the explosion went off above her van.
"Obviously, I had angels following me," said Olise-Aikins. "Otherwise, I don't see how I could have gotten out of that."
Officers found dirt, glass and other debris around her vehicle. The lights under the overpass were also broken.
Luckily, no one was hurt.
Three people were detained and interviewed by detectives.
Police arrested 56-year-old Wayne Turner for Manufacturing and Possession of a Destructive Device and 21-year-old Isak Turner for Possession of a Destructive Device and Criminal Mischief.
