2 killed in overnight shootings on Indy's near northeast, south sides

Both of the shootings happened within just a few hours of each other.

INDIANAPOLIS — Separate shootings left two people dead early Saturday morning in Indianapolis.

The first shooting happened around 12:30 a.m. on the near northeast side in the 2900 block of Schofield Avenue, just west of 30th Street and Keystone Avenue.

When IMPD officers arrived to the scene, they found a victim who was shot and in critical condition. The victim was taken to a local hospital where they died from their injures, according to a police report.

The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the deceased as 52-year-old Willie Lee Biles Jr.

Police did not provide provide information about a suspect or motive in the shooting.

A few hours later, around 3 a.m., IMPD confirmed another shooting occurred on the south side in the 8300 block of Siear Drive, near South Madison Avenue and East Stop 11 Road.

When IMPD officers arrived to the scene, they found a victim who was shot and pronounced dead by medics.

The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the deceased as 23-year-old Marcus Wayne McGlaughlin.

IMPD said officers detained two people believed to be involved in this shooting, but both individuals were released pending further investigation.
