2 arrested after investigation into crash that killed Ashlea Albertson

Jacob Kelly, 31, and a 22-year-old man were arrested and charged with reckless homicide.

VERSAILLES, Ind. — The Indiana State Police announced they have arrested both drivers of the vehicles that were involved in an accident that killed 24-year-old race car driver Ashlea Albertson in August

According to ISP, the investigation into the crash revealed that a 22-year-old man was traveling northbound on Interstate 65 near the 48-mile marker. Jacob Kelly, 31, was driving with Albertson in the left lane around the same area.

Police say the two cars refused to allow the other to pass. The two drivers allegedly sped up to speeds in excess of 90 miles per hour before the car being driven by the 22-year-old began to change lanes into the path of Kelly's car.

Both vehicles collided, causing the vehicle occupied by Kelly and Albertson to roll. Albertson was ejected from the vehicle.

Kelly and Albertson were flown to University of Louisville Hospital where Albertson was pronounced dead. Kelly was treated and released. The 22-year-old and another passenger were transported to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Toxicology results show the 22-year-old had THC in his system at the time of the crash. He was arrested Nov. 28 and charged with causing death while operating a motor vehicle with a controlled substance and reckless homicide.

Kelly was arrested Nov. 27 and charged with reckless homicide.
