INDIANAPOLIS — A 19-year-old wanted suspect was arrested following a deadly crash on the east side of Indianapolis.
The Indiana Crime Guns Task Force (ICGTF) initially arrested 19-year-old Eric Simpson, of Indianapolis, in the 100 block of North Linwood Avenue, near East New York Street and Emerson Avenue, in February 2024, where he was found with a gun and a machine gun conversion device.
Five months later, in July 2024, authorities said they saw Simpson in the downtown area carrying a gun. Police said they knew he was a "prohibited person," so he couldn't legally own a gun.
Officers said they tried to conduct a traffic stop on Simpson's vehicle, but he sped off, initiating a chase. The chase was terminated shortly after.
IMPD said they found out later that Simpson had continued driving at a high rate of speed, which resulted in his vehicle flipping, ejecting and killing a passenger and seriously injuring another.
IMPD’s Traffic Unit filed a warrant for Simpson's arrest on preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement causing death, reckless homicide and unlawful possession of a gun.
Police said Simpson fled the crash scene and was not apprehended at that time.
On Monday, Oct. 28, investigators found Simpson in the 1600 block of Kessler Boulevard North Drive and arrested him on his active warrant related to the fatal crash. The suspect also had another warrant for possession of a machine gun, stemming from the February 2024 investigation by the ICGTF.
During Simpson's arrest, police found over 80 grams of marijuana and a gun.
