INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis teenager is facing a felony charge after police recovered several machine gun conversion devices that were being shipped to his home address.
Jaziah Seay, 19, was charged with possession of a machine gun. Online court records indicate he was taken into custody Friday, June 14, and the judge ordered he be held for seven days with no bond.
According to recently released court documents, on Thursday, May 23, Homeland Security Investigations Indianapolis contacted the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) about an investigation into machine gun conversion devices. Possession of machine gun conversion devices, or Glock switches, is illegal under federal law.
Customs had intercepted a package meant for a "Jahmal E" shipped to an address in the 3300 block of North Denny Street, which is near East 34th Street and North Sherman Drive on Indy's east side. The package was shipped through DHL Express and was coming from a company called Chunshueng International Industrial in Hong Kong.
On Monday, June 10, agents with the Indiana Crime Guns Task Force and Homeland Security Investigations conducted a controlled delivery of the package to its intended destination. According to court documents, the package included six Glock switches and one drop-in auto sear for a total of seven machine gun conversion devices.
An undercover agent dropped the package off, and it was picked up by an older male and brought inside the house. The IMPD SWAT team then surrounded the house and demanded its occupants to come outside. Officers then initiated a previously-approved search warrant on the house.
Eventually, court documents say police were able to speak with Seay and discovered he had two plastic baggies containing Glock switches hidden in his pocket.
Court documents say Seay was arrested and transported to the Marion County jail.
Seay's initial hearing is scheduled for Monday, June 17.
