INDIANAPOLIS — Two Indianapolis men were sentenced to more than 10 years combined in federal prison after pleading guilty to charges in connection with three armed robberies, the U.S. Department of Justice announced.

Corey Rice and Antonio Williams, both 19, were sentenced to five years and five and a half years, respectively. Both pleaded guilty to three counts of interference with commerce by robbery.

According to court documents, the men robbed a Beech Grove Subway restaurant on April 23, 2023, threatening employees with weapons that appeared to be guns and demanding cash before collecting around $400.

One week later, on April 30, 2023, the pair robbed Indy Smoke Time in Greenwood, again showing apparent weapons, demanding cash and taking around $570. Just 45 minutes later, Rice and Williams robbed a Family Dollar location on West Washington Street in Indianapolis.

Around 10 minutes after that, IMPD officers located the men at an apartment complex in downtown Indianapolis. Officers saw the men getting rid of gray trash bags, and Williams later admitted in an interview that he threw cash from the robberies into the canal when he saw officers approaching, the DOJ said.

“These two men used guns to intimidate workers, putting innocent people in fear for their lives so they could steal a few hundred dollars from the cash registers," FBI Indianapolis Special Agent in Charge Herbert J. Stapleton said in a statement. "The sentences imposed send a clear message that these are serious crimes and the people who utilize these violent acts will be held accountable."

The case was investigated by the FBI and IMPD. Both men will be on supervised probation for three years after being released from prison.
