SPEEDWAY, Ind. — A 19-year-old man has been charged with murder in the deadly shooting of a teenager in a Speedway neighborhood earlier this week.
Benjamin Mulkey, of Indianapolis, has also been charged with two counts of pointing a firearm following the Nov. 12 shooting, which killed 17-year-old Caiden Clements.
A pretrial conference has been scheduled for 1 p.m. Jan. 16.
Speedway Police Department officers responded to the area of 22nd and Auburn streets just after 2 a.m. that morning on reports of shots fired.
The investigation led officials to the 5000 block of West 22nd Street, where a teenager, later identified as Clements, was found shot and pronounced dead at the scene.
Clements' father told 13News his son raced in soap box derbies, got good grades and always had people laughing.
Little did Nicholas know, he would say, "I love you" one last time to his son before he walked out the door Saturday night.
"Words can't explain. (I'll) never get to hug him again, never get to tell him I love him again, see him again. And all over what? Probably nothing, to be honest with you. Nothing worth dying over," Nicholas Clements said.
